A Treasure in the Rough

by Sam
(U.S.A)

One day I was cat fishing in my home town creek. Suddenly, I saw a few clams siting in the water as a fish swam by. I decided to pick the clams up. They were broken, but still I went further along the bank to search for more clams. I eventually found some healthy looking closed clams and opened them. I must have opened twenty clams before...
with a gasp, found a pearl! It didn't have the sheen that some pearls do but it was round and creamy. I shall always remember the find of a treasure in the rough.

Wow!
by: Kari

Hi Sam,

I think that finding a pearl after only opening 20 mussels is amazing! Even if your pearl is not a lustrous beauty, it is still a natural pearl and they are special.

It will made a lovely family heirloom. I don't know the size, but maybe it could be put into a necklace.

It's neat that you found a pearl as a bonus while fishing for catfish. I hope you caught some of those too.

If you'd like to share a photo you can email it to me at: karipearls(at)gmail(dot)com and I will add it to you page.

Thanks so much, Sam, for sharing your good fortune with us!
