Abalone Bust in New South Wales

by Kari
(Muscatine, Iowa)

Ablaone Shell

Ablaone Shell

Wow....be sure to count the number of Abalone in your sack carefully and don't take 200 times your allowed allotment. If you do, you'll face a maximum fine of $11,000 or three months in jail for taking 200 times the limit of Abalone, which is normally 2 per person.

A 31 year old Batemans Bay man radically miscounted and got caught in the act. The Primary Industries Department is clamping down heavily on illegal poachers and there is a substancial reward for anyone whose report of these illegal poachers results in a successful conviction of abalone thieves.....so keep your eyes open.
