Abalone pearl a little smaller than a golf ball.

Large Abalone Pearl

Large Abalone Pearl

About five years ago diving off of the Sonoma County coast I got an abalone pearl that had a cracked shell. When I popped the abalone out of the shell I checked the guts and found a pearl just a little smaller than a golf ball. Very beautiful colors and great size.

It is huge.. Is it silver or does it have color? I would love to see a few more pictures with better light. How much does it weigh? were there any small pearls in the same abalone. sometimes when I find one, there others in the same abalone.

Abalone pearl photos

Thanks, Raleigh, for the photos. It always helps to see a photo of something. The colors probably look much more brilliant in person, but we can certainly see the large size.

Abalone pearl photos?
by: Kari

Hi Raleigh,

Thanks for telling us about your smaller than a golf ball abalone pearl. It must be thrilling to find one and especially a nice large one.

Do you think the crack had anything to do with the pearl?

Any chance of a couple photos? It'd be fun to see.

If you want, you can send photos to my email: karipearls (AT) gmail (DOT) com. I can add them to your page.

It was fun to hear about your pearl! Thanks.
