Abalone Pearl Found Near Fort Bragg

Natural Abalone Pearls

Early in 2007, I went abalone diving around Fort Bragg, California, with some friends. I have been doing it for years and have always heard about the pearls but had never found one. Then it happened, I was amazed at how the color and shine shot out at me when I popped it out of the shell. I think it is probably gem quality because the color is brilliant and the texture is so smooth. But what do I know I'm not an expert. Anyway it is a nice reminder of how much fun I had on that abalone trip.

Glad you finally found some pearls.

Your pearls is huge when compared to the quarter next to it. I'm assuming that you found the two in the same abalone. Together they would make into a wonderful designer piece....what a thrilling reward after years of diving. Good for you! And keep on diving.
