An unusual use of 14K gold and Mississippi pearls by a jeweler of the Arts & Crafts movement of the early 20th century.

Certificate: This ring was evaluated by Lila Taylor, M.Sc., an expert in American freshwater pearls.

This handcrafted, one-of-a-kind gold ring dating to ca. 1905 features three natural American freshwater pearls, beautifully matched in overall form, color, surface texture, and luster. The pearls are white with subtle pink, blue, and green orient.

The organic floral and foliate style mounting places the design squarely in the Arts & Crafts movement. The use of 14K gold here is quite unusual, as silver and other metals normally were favored by these artisans.

The face of the ring measures approximately 7/8" by 1/2". It is in very fine condition for its age, showing only moderate normal wear. Inside the shank there is a faint remnant of a 14K mark, as well as initials and a date -- unfortunately unreadable now. All the pearls are securely set, with some excess glue behind one pearl, not seen when worn.

The ring has been gently cleaned (not repolished), is a size 3.25, and resizeable by a jeweler experienced with antique pearl rings. It was almost certainly made for the pinky finger, in accordance with the fashion of the day. Most likely given as a token of love, it deserves to be cherished again!
