Creating Art from Shells

THE South Coast Koori Women gathered at Umbarra Cultural Centre recently for a shellwork workshop.
The workshop was partly funded by an AIATSIS grant to Daphne Nash for her research at the Australian National University on Representations of Indigenous Knowledge on the South Coast of NSW.

Attendees came from the communities of Gerringong, Wreck Bay, Nowra, Eden, East Lynne, Moruya and Merimbula.

The tradition of shell collecting has been practised by South Coast Koori Women for centuries.
