Finding a Quahog Pearl Twice in a Lifetime

by Kristine
(Cranston,RI )

Two pretty quahog pearls

Two pretty quahog pearls

Every summer we go quahoging on the weekends....8 years ago we found our first purple pearl, while making clam chowder! We had it put in a cage for my charm bracelet, check it out for yourself. Then, same cove, five years later.....we found our second, while eating quahogs, as we were catching them in the cove (with lemon and hot sauce) of course....this pearl is a bit smaller, and kind of peach in color....Robert, Kris .... :)

Very fortunate
by: Kari

I think you are very fortunate to have found 2 pearls in one lifetime. I have heard from people who search often and have never found one pearl.

I also like the cage you have put your pearl in. It's a great way to enjoy your treasure. If you can ever take a more focused photo you can email it to me at karipearls(AT)gmail(DOT)com and I will change it for you.

I was thrilled to find two quahog shells at a local Goodwill store here in Iowa. As we don't have quahogs here it was fun to at least find the shells. I once saw a quahog shell polished and it was gorgeous. I wonder why more people don't polish these. There may be a market even for the lovely purple shells.

Thanks for sharing!
