Girl With A Pearl Earring

The Girl With A Pearl Earring has generated quite a bit of interest in the last few years. Who would ever dream that a painting from the 1665 would hold so much of our attention in the 21st century?

I think anyone who takes a beautiful piece of artwork and creates a story for it is somewhat of a genius. Tracy Chevalier is just such a genius. I prefer putting a purer slant on these famous artists than she has done, but then, she undoubtedly knows what will sell and if one is going to write, it's also nice to sell.

I enjoyed the physical atmosphere in this movie....the sets, the clothing, the houses, the hairdos. The attitude of Vermeer's wife was apparently there to help justify his roaming ways. The young girl's innocence and attraction was easily understandable, especially for someone previously sheltered. It is easy to think that today's society has drifted far from historical purity, but then fallen mankind is fallen mankind and has been so from time's beginning.

Girl With A Pearl Earring

At least the dear girl is rescued from a increasingly difficult entrapment with a passionate artist and is rewarded for her portrait portrayal with the lovely earrings....but I wonder what his wife said when she found them missing, or what excuse he offered. Oh, and check near the bottom of this page. Apparently, he used the same maybe single earring for another lesser known portrait of a young girl wearing a pearl.
