by James Hatcher

Mauve Crab pearl

Mauve Crab pearl

Are these really pearls? I found one that was round and one that looked like cartilage. It was not as round. What are these? The round one is a mauve color. HELP!

Pretty!
by: Mandy

That is a very pretty color. How big is it? The paper towel/napkin backdrop only sort of gives a sense of scale. :)

Are you interested in selling it? I don't know that it's really "worth" anything, but I'd be interested in adding it to my collection for a reasonable price.

Crab pearls
by: Kari

Hello James,

Thanks for sharing the photo. Your crab pearl has a lovely color. As for facts, you might enjoy Alex's post here. He shares some wisdom from Wikipedia about crab pearls.

Most experts would not classify these as pearls, nor place a high value on them. They are pretty much a novelty/keepsake item. But, Mark, on this post said he'd like to see a necklace made from them.

Lots of people find these, so maybe someone could collect enough for a necklace.

I appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your find.
