I Found a Black Pearl in an Oyster!

A BLACK pearl!

I’ve always wanted to find a pearl in an oyster!

So The Boo™ and I went to Blue Fin (Blue Fin Memphis) for dinner this evening for some sushi. We ordered some raw oysters, seaweed salad, and some other decadent sushi items (yum yum yummy!).

Our server told us that they were waiting on a shipment of oysters and didn’t know if they were delivered as of yet. Lucky for us, the shipment had just arrived! So we knew were getting a fresh plate! Well, as fresh as can be in a land-locked state like Tennessee and I wouldn’t eat anything RAW straight out of the Mississippi river LOL.

Anyway, we had an “Oyster Draft” and like picking teams in school, we picked our oysters. I ate two of mine with no incident.

As I slurped my third oyster and something that felt like a small marble rolled onto my tongue! I spit it out and lo and behold it was a small black pearl!

As I took a picture of it, a drunk loser at the next table asked me “Wut you got thur?” and I told him it was just a rock. I didn’t want to have a conversation with an idiot. And please don’t accuse me of being quick to judge as he and the 2 other stooges at that table put on quite a shocking display of dicketry and douchebaggery for the past 30 minutes.

LUCKY ME!!!

I called the restaurant to ask where the oysters came from, and they said they were from the Gulf of Mexico. The pearl is quite round which is a good thing. Other than that, I have no idea regarding lustre or any of that.

It doesn’t look like it has any major imperfections but what do I know. It’s very smooth, actually. I guess I could take it to a jeweler and get it looked at.

Hi Yvonne,

Congratulations on finding a lovely black pearl. It must have been thrilling!

Once word gets out that the Blue Fin in Memphis is giving away pearls in their dinners, they might have a rush of customers.

Thanks for the details in your story. It really was a night to remember.
