I found a pearl from a Long Island Sound oyster!

by Shar
(Penn Yan, NY)

My husband and I were vacationing in Key West and I ordered fresh oysters. I found a pearl in one - about 6mm. It's white, but has a rounded point on one side with a black tip. The entire pearl feels rough. How can I shine it up?

long island with black tip
by: Michael

I was eating an oyster tonight at a restaurant in CT and it happened to be a long island oyster as well. Low and behold, I found a pearl inside! This one is shaped like a tear-drop and has a black tip as well. Very interesting! I wonder if this is a trend!

Hello Shar,

I'd like to see a photo of your pearl with a black tip. Any chance of a photo?

Lucky you to find a pearl. I hope you think of an interesting way to enjoy it.

Let us know how you are displaying your keepsake, natural pearl treasure.

It's my opinion that the natural surface of pearls is the most appealing. If I were you, I'd enjoy it in its natural state.

Thank you for posting!
