Lucky Pearl Finder in Kuwait

by Marge Anderson
(Coos Bay, OR (USA))

Between 1978 and 1982 we lived in Kuwait and our son in law was a professional diver and introduced us to finding natural pearls in the waters off Kuwait. Oddly enough if you wait for the tide to go out, and it REALLY goes out, you can find oysters lying in the sand and small tide pools. We got "pearl fever" and every chance we got we would go to the water and look for oysters. We have a very nice collection of natural pearls and I also bought a pearl necklace at the local jewelers which our daughter wore on her wedding day. We treasure the time we spent with the Arabs, whom we love and found to be the most honest people we have ever met. I don't know how to do the digital camera thing so I cannot send any photos but finding a pearl is breathtaking and truly unforgettable. Truly a memory I will always treasure.

Lucky Pearl Finder in Kuwait
by: Marge Anderson

Kari. How nice to hear that you also spent time in Kuwait. When we first arrived we lived right on the Gulf Road at the roundabout near Salmiyah and could see the gulf from our apartment but had no idea of the pearls until about a year later. Maybe you will have a chance to return there. If you would like more correspondence on Kuait and our time there you can email me at alfanderson@msn.com. Thanks for the comment. Marge

Wish I'd known that.

Marge, thank you for sharing your pearl finding secret. I wish I had known that during my visit to Kuwait. I kept gazing out at the sea and wondering if anyone finds many pearls. I enjoyed the cars decorated for independence day. I imagine your technique would work for other parts of the world as well. It would be fun to hear if others as well have had good success with your method. Would love to see a photo of your collection. Maybe someone can help you with that. If you send it to karipearls(AT)gmail(DOT)com I can easily add it for you.
