Mikimoto memories

by Bobbidee Thompson
(Tuscola, Texas)

I well remember the day that Daddy took me, and my little sister & Mom to buy Mikimoto pearls. It was so exciting! I was 10, and my little sister was 5. we felt so grown up! None of our friends had such jewelry, but daddy said we wouldn't be little girls forever, and we when we had the chance to buy quality, we should take it. Mary & I each got a 20" graduated strand and Mom got a double strand. It was 1969 and Dad paid the astronomical price (to my way of thinking) of $25 for each of our single strands and $50 for Mom's double strand. I wore my strand on my wedding day and remember Daddy telling us that beautiful women wear beautiful jewels. I am traveling to Tokyo this summer and am planning on taking my pearls "home." This site is so great I plan to start all my "little ladies" off with bracelets from Kari's!

Love to see a photo!
by: Kari

Hello,

What a great memory. We'd love to see a photo of your pearls and also be sure to let us know what happens in Tokyo when you go back there.

When I visited the Mikimoto store in Ginza, Tokyo, I was surprised to find out that most Japanese ladies prefer no knots even on their most expensive necklaces.

I was also pleasantly surprised recently to meet the president of Mikimoto in Dubai. Here I am speaking with him.
