Harvested a 9 1/4 inch abalone from North California Coast. When I went to clean the abalone this is the gift I received. The photos don't do it justice. It's huge!!! Plan on taking it to a jeweler to have it weighed and measured. Would also like to know its value. Would also like your info and feedback on this pearl....

Very Large Abalone Pearl
by: Kari

Wow, that is a very large abalone pearl. I know you put the quarter beside it, so I've been trying to calculate how long it is...could you enlighten me by giving measurements? Also, what is the carat weight? Perhaps a kind jeweler would weigh it for you.

I like the interesting shapes with multiple surfaces. It's almost like there are blister pearls attached to the pearl or several pearls joined together.

You might want to check out the free valuation days through Bonham's Auction House. They have free valuation days both in LA and San Francisco.

They did just sell a large abalone pearl for a very low price, although an abalone pearl necklace sold higher.

Thank you for sharing and please keep me posted on your pearl's journey.
