Are your pearls natural?
by: Kari

Hi Nora,

If the pearls you bought in UAE 20 years ago are true natural pearls from the Persian Gulf, then, yes, they have a high value.

Most pearls sold in the UAE are cultured pearls. If your pearls are cultured pearls then the value would depend upon the quality of the pearls and would not be nearly as high in value as true natural pearls.

I have searched for natural pearls in UAE and they are difficult to find there. I suspect your pearls are cultured, but a lab could tell you for sure.

Thanks for asking!

I bought these pearls with a flat side when in use some 20 yrs ago, 300 in all. Got myself an 18 carat clasp. And had them strung in England. Have they any value? Nora

Certificates in India
by: Kari

Hello Varun,

It is my understanding that there is a GIA lab in Mumbai. There you'd be able to get a certificate for your necklace. If you find out otherwise, please let me know.

Thanks and God bless,
Kari

Certification
by: Varun

I have a similar two strand necklace (112 pearls) that want to get appraised in New Delhi. I would like to sell it if it is valuable.

Any advice regarding the lab and the valuation of Basra pearls?

Prices vary
by: Kari

Hi Jane,

Lucky you to have a similar necklace. Prices for certificates vary from lab to lab. Two in the USA you can check out are EGL and GIA. EGL will also give an appraisal.

If you'd like to "show off" your natural pearl necklace, feel free to do so here. I'm sure many would enjoy seeing photos of it.

I have a string pearl just like this.
by: jane blanchard

They are beautiful. Mine has 63 pearls in the string and very well matched with size about 8mm. I know 50 years ago, my grandpa estimated it worth 10 oz of gold.
What is the cost to get the certification for it?
