Al Ain National Museum Highlights History Of Pearl Diving In UAE

As part of the on-going Al Ain Cultural Programme, the Al Ain National Museum and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, have announced that the month of April will be dedicated to the historical pearl diving industry in the UAE, with a special focus on Al-Tous, a bowl-shaped tool used to measure pearls, as the 'Star Object of the Month'.

Al-Tous are a set of 5 to 7 measuring tools shaped like a bowl with different sized holes. They were used by pearl traders to separate, measure and weigh pearls by size, shape and colour. The value of the pearl depended mainly on its size, lustre, colour, complexion and shape.

The Star Object of the Month programme, which consists of educational workshops, aims to educate children and highlight historical objects displayed in the museum that are integral to UAE heritage and tradition. Each month a star object is carefully selected by the museum team.

Star Object of the Month workshops will be held at the museum on every Tuesday in April at 10 am and are designed for children aged 10 and above to enjoy.
