Half Inch Quahog Purple Pearl Ring

Half Inch Purple Quahog Pearl in Ring

Half Inch Purple Quahog Pearl in Ring

My father who is 80 has been digging quahogs in the Narraganssett Bay area of Rhode island for over 60 years and found his purple pearl over 30 years ago. It is perfectly round, 1/2 inch diameter and perfectly flat on one side. As you can see in the photo, my mother had it mounted and made into a ring for him about 15 years ago. He is very interested in getting this appraised and I would appreciate any and all possible sources.

Thanks, but...
by: Kari

Thank you for your comment, but I beg to differ with you.

I've seen several gorgeous purple quahog pearls.

They are all not muddy as you suggest.

Yes, I'm sure some are gray & muddy looking, but please don't lump them all together in the same "brown, tan, gray or drab looking" basket.

Quahog pearls, especially the lavender & purple ones are rare and valuable, much sought after pearls.

Personally, I enjoy all natural pearls and if I were to see your pearls, I'm sure I could find some redeeming qualities about them as well. Please cherish your dull looking quahog pearls.

not a quahog pearl
by: Anonymous

quahog pearls are always gray and muddy looking. Both of my parents, my brother and I have dug quahogs for several decades: every pearl we have found has been brown, tan, gray or drab looking. It is most likely that this is a beach washed or human polished piece of wampum from a quahog shell.
