I believe I found a pearl in an oyster I was eating!

Pearl Found While Eating Oyster

Pearl Found While Eating Oyster

So I was eating some raw oysters in a restaurant and I almost broke my tooth on something that I believe is a pearl. I have attached a photo of it. I understand from other posts that pearls found in edible oysters aren't usually of much value just wanting your input on my find. I'd like to have it put into a necklace or something. What are your ideas? Can a jeweler make it shinier? Who should I take it to? Do you have any idea the approximate value of such a pearl? Anyway, thanks for your help!

Yvette

Hello Yvette,

Sorry for my delayed response here. The submissions have gotten ahead of me.

That pearl would be lovely as a pendant. You could either have it put into a "cage" pendant or a jeweler could drill a hole and mount it with a post.

Luster is pretty well set in a pearl, best to accept it as is even if it's not the highest luster, it still is a natural pearl and that's special!

If you haven't already had it mounted try to find a local "mom & pop" type jewelry store rather than the chain, franchise type stores often located in malls. Small, local jewelers will be able to serve you much better. If they are accustomed to designing then they also will have some creative ideas for your pearl.

Thank you, Yvette, for sharing! Great photo and nice pearl!
