I think I have a freshwater pearl

Freshwater Blister Pearl

Freshwater Blister Pearl

We live on the San Antonio River in Texas and kayaked up the river a few months ago. We found a mussel shell, opened and "empty", and brought it home because it was large and still intact and was interesting looking. It bounced around in the bottom of the kayak all the way home and remained intact. It was placed on top of the refrigerator and remained there for a few months. One day I was admiring it and noticed what appears to be a pearl inside. It is not perfectly round, but more irregular shaped. I wonder if it's a pearl? Can anyone help me if I email a pic?

Yes, it looks like a blister pearl
by: Kari

From your photo, yes, I would say there is a blister pearl attached to the shell. Your shell is large and so is your pearl. It is a nice keepsake or collector's item especially since the shell is still intact. It's neat! I appreciate you sharing it with us.
