Early in 2007 I went abalone diving around Fort Bragg, California, with some friends. I have been doing it for years and have always heard about the pearls but had never found one. Then it happened, I was amazed at how the color and shine shot out at me when I popped it out of the shell. I think it is probably gem quality because the color is brilliant and the texture is so smooth. But what do I know I'm not an expert. Anyway it is a nice reminder of how much fun I had on that abalone trip.

Al, Your pearls are just gorgeous. I'm glad your fun diving finally rewarded you with pearls. If that's a quarter (little hard to see), then the big pearl is very big and the smaller one a perfect companion. I'd be interested to know if they were both in the same shell. I hope you can take them to a jeweler and have them made into a special piece of heirloom jewelry. Something very special could be made from these. Thanks so much for sharing your new found treasure and be sure to share again if you find any more.
