Pearl in a frozen box of fresh water mussels

by Andrew
(Sydney)

We were having a seafood dinner and got a box of New Zealand fresh water Mussels. I had already taken them out of the shell and was cooking them. Sitting down to a nice meal and eating my 3rd mussel and then bit something hard. Took it out of my mouth and saw it was a pearl. WOW. My 2 kids thought it was amazing. Not very big but exciting all the same.

Fun! To find a pearl!
by: Kari

Hi Ciamia,

Thank you for sharing about finding a blue mussel pearl. It must have been thrilling! The little man will be shocked and maybe it will help his sales if he tells about you finding a pearl.

I had an interesting experience in Belfast some years ago. If you are interested, you can read about it here.

Belfast will always have a special place in my heart after that evening!

God bless and I'm glad you didn't lose a tooth and I hope you find many more pearls!

blue muscle pearl?
by: ciamia

hi,i am from belfast in ireland. on a friday a little man comes in a van who sells fish and shell fish. i decided to get a few muscles and because it was the end of the day, he threw me in the extra leftovers, so i deceded to cook them up and indulged myself eating them, through my first few somtimes as you get the odd crunch of shell etc.i found this particular crunch wouldnt go away. i bit hard into it and almost lost a tooth. i spat it out and had a closer look, it was a tiny stone liked ball but on closer look it was turning a lovely blue colour,i was really surprised when i realised it most definatley was a pearl.i was hoping for another but couldnt eat anymore muscles. so i cant wait to thank the little fish man on friday.what an unexpected surprise.
