Yes, it's a pearl
by: Kari

Yes, this is a pearl. I've seen another photo of these that a collector in France owns. The collector was surprised to see another similar to his which is also attached to the operculum or the "lid" of the shell. You won't see these often. They are true collector's items. Contact me, via my contact page, if you are interested in purchasing this pearl.

Very Unusual Pearl
by: Kari

Hi Azeez,

Thank you for sharing a photo and description of your pearl. I had to look up the meaning of "operculum", which I now know is the part of seashell that covers its opening. (Thanks for teaching me a new term.)

Sorry, but we do not give estimates on pearls, only if there is an established buying price for a specific type of pearl....such as for purple Quahogs, the price is often $200/carat.

Your pearl would need to be appraised by someone who appraises natural pearls. I can get you in contact with someone if you wish.

As for an auction, which is a good idea for a collector's item such as you have, you might contact Christies, Sothebys or California based I.M.Chait.

Keep us informed about your very interesting pearl.
