Scallop Pearls

Never even heard of a scallop pearl. However tonight was my 60th birthday and we went to my favorite Italian restaurant. I always order the seafood trio with shrimp, scallops and clams. When biting into one of the scallops I thought I had a shell in my mouth. Then I ended up with several little pearls shaped pieces. I made the comment "oh they look like little pearls". I came home and looked it up on the internet. I've eaten scallops my entire life and have never bitten into one with a shell or pearl. Now I know differently. What a great find on my 60th birthday.

Fun to find pearls
by: Kari

Hi Pam,

I'm happy for you to find a nice treasure on your birthday. I asked for cherrystone clams on my birthday, naturally, with the hope to find a nice quahog pearl, but no luck. You were "lucky".

A friend shared some scallop pearls with me and they also are very small and misshapen, but natural pearls all the same and all natural pearls are special in their own way.

There are many types of scallops and some pearls can be a nice size and color.

Let me know if you want to add some photos. I think folks would enjoy seeing your natural scallop pearls.

Thanks for sharing!
