What's for dinner!

by Charm

Simple enough story! We ordered carry out Chinese food tonight for dinner. My husband ordered his favorite, Happy Family, which includes shrimp, crab and scallops. I've always figured they used some sort of substitute for the scallops like they did the crab. However, when chewing one, I nearly broke a tooth, thought I was going to spit out a filling and instead, spit out a pearl. I didn't think that scallops could produce a pearl, however, based on a quick internet search, I was wrong. I have taken it's photo inside my wedding band to show its size.

My pleasure
by: Kari

It's my pleasure to provide education about pearls....and I'm learning all the time as well.

I especially love hearing about natural pearls. To me they are the ultimate!

I found a tiny pearl myself years ago, but didn't keep track of it.

Be sure to let us know if you make your pearl into a jewelry piece. It would be fun to see it.

Pear-Land
by: Anonymous

The city I live in is actually "Pear-Land", but many people refer to it as "Pearl-and". I didn't even pick up on the irony. Thank you for the education in pearl harvesting. Educational and enjoyable.

How Exciting!
by: Kari

Oh, how exciting....and I'm so glad you found Karipearls.com too so you could share your fun story with us...and I'm also glad you didn't break a tooth!

I love the photo of the pearl inside of your wedding ring. It looks like a dark color? What color is it exactly?

Pearls do show up in the most unexpected places, don't they?

Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you can have something special made with your pearl.

God bless,
Kari
