A Grandfathers gift!

I have a beautiful natural pearl, add a pearl necklace that my grandfather started me from birth and ended when I was 21. I am now 52 years old and they are more beautiful now since they are completed. I wanted them to be choker length when finished and they are. Both of my daughters wore them beautifully in their weddings and now my granddaughter will wear them for her graduation when the time comes. I have no idea how much they are worth or where they came from. I do know they are salt water pearls and that my Grandfather got them from his jeweler at Goldbros in Birmingham Al.in 1959. He has since passed and I have no one to ask about them. They have been restrung once because the string broke on my senior prom and I thought I lost them forever. Luckily they fell into my bra and I found them when I got home. I don't have a photo at this time but will take one when I can. I had them appraised once in 1983 and at that time they were around $5,000.00 to replace if lost or stolen. I would love to know their worth now but I have no where I can take them to find out. I am afraid someone will change them out for fake ones, I have heard stories, and I don't want them out of my site so what do you do? I really need to know their worth... can someone help guide me to someone reputable in my area. Birmingham Alabama.

Thanks so much!!
