An Enigma…

soufflé or keshi or natural?

soufflé or keshi or natural?

I recently picked up this pearl online for a project thinking it was a soufflé or keshi, but now that I have it in my hands I’m not so sure about it. Given the cost and time commitment for a lab report I was hoping for expert advice as to whether this could possibly be a natural freshwater pearl and whether it might be worth further scrutiny in a lab. It’s about the size of a US silver dollar and very heavy…gorgeous in any case. Any opinions and advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks for sharing Nate. There are so many mysteries in the wonderful world of pearls.

I would think that your original thought was correct, that it is a souffle or keshi pearl from a cultured pearl farm in China, most likely.

Often cultured pearls get stuck together and grow into large clusters.

The luster is amazing and certainly a lovely piece to enjoy.

As far as being a natural freshwater pearl, I wouldn't think it is.

I'd love to hear anyone else's thoughts on this pearl.

Thanks again for taking the time to share it on my website.

God bless,
Kari
