Beautiful pearl found in Louisiana Oyster!

Beautiful pearl found in Louisiana Oyster!

My Fiance and I were visiting a restaurant in Ocean Springs, MS over the weekend. I love raw oysters, so I always have to order some if we go to a restaurant that freshly shucks them. We had ordered a dozen and I was on my last oyster when I about broke my tooth on something very hard. I managed to get it out of my mouth and found that it was a pearl. I was so happy... that has never happened to me in all the years of eating oysters. I'm not sure what kind it is or if it's worth anything, but I would be curious. Any information would be great! I think this would make a very pretty single stone necklace!

Thank you!!

Congratulations
by: Kari

Hello, Thanks for sharing your story about finding a pearl. Natural pearls from edible oysters are not normally worth a high value, unless unusually large and lovely but still, what fun! God bless, Kari

My hometown!
by: Sally C. Shells

Hi beth! Im having a blast reading all of these pearly stories. I grew up in ocean springs and have recently moved to corpus christi texas. The shelling over here blows my mind! But there's no place like home for sure! I was just wondering where you were eating... Little bit of homesickness setting in ::grin::
When i was younger... Before katrina... I was eating at the red lobster in gulfport and bit into an oyster with a greyish black pearl. (Luckily, my tooth didn't break) And i have been hooked ever since. Here in texas i have found a dozen or so blister pearls... Always on the hunt. Thanks for your story. Made my day!! Sally.

A nice size pearl
by: Kari

Hi Beth,

Sorry you broke a tooth but glad you found a pearl. That's a nice size too. Yes, I agree, it would make a lovely single pearl necklace. We'd love to see the photo if you have that done.

Congrats on finding a natural pearl!
