First time!

by Madonna
(Louisiana)

Growing up in south Louisiana, with family less than a mile from the gulf coast, I have wonderful memories of my parents and cousins purchasing sacks of oysters and shucking them while laughing and telling stories. Since childhood, myself and members of our family have found loose pearls in oysters as well as some attached to the oysters we were eating. It's been over 20 years since they last did this and I have no idea if they kept any of them but, the joy of finding one caused excitement, raised voices and adults acting like children. I still smile when I think of those days.

A few years ago, I saw a first while eating oysters at a restaurant. My husband found a small black pearl in one of his oysters and gave it to me. It isn't huge but, I love it because, he gave it to me and it's pure. I put it away in a safety deposit box a couple years ago so that it wouldn't get lost in our move and hope to one day in the near future to have it set in jewerly so that I can wear it. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of it with me at this time to post.

Loved reading some of the other stories on here.

Best Wishes in this New Year,
Madonna

Hello Madonna,

Thanks for sharing anyway without a photo, although we'd love to also see this lovely pearl.

Funny and neat how finding a natural pearl brings joy and excitement!

Love it!
Kari
