Day after it was found

Hi! On 6/18/2023, we found what we think is a crab pearl in a colossal king crab leg. I wasn’t sure how to care for it. It has just kind of sat out for a few weeks. Now, it’s whiter in color, more shriveled, and when you shake it something rattles inside. Sounds hard and singular. Is that the actual pearl rattling inside? And what was on the outside was the the calcium/tissue that dried and hardened? See the photos attached. You can tell the color and texture has changed. Should I cut it open and see what’s inside or is the entire thing the pearl and I should leave it as-is? Thank you! So cool! :)

Good questions
by: Kari

Hello Sara,

Oh, neat. Yes, cool for sure.

You asked some very good questions. I don't have experience with these types of things so I don't know the answers but your speculation sounds like a possibility.

Hopefully someone will see your post and give some good advice.

Thanks for sharing. It's fun hearing about these things and it's neat that you took the time for photos and explaining what happened after a week.

Please keep us informed.

God bless,
Kari
