I THINK I FOUND A PEARL BUT NOT SURE

I THINK I FOUND A PEARL BUT NOT SURE

MY NAME IS DAN AND I LIVE ON THE SOUTH SHORE OF LONG ISLAND,NY. MY FAMILY HAS ALWAYS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE FISHING BUSINESS ANY WAY POSSIBLE, WHETHER IT BE SPORT FISHING FOR FUN,OR COMMERCIAL FISHING. ONE OF MY BROTHERS EVEN WORKED ON A COMMERCIAL OYSTER FISHING VESSEL AT ONE POINT. DURING THIS PERIOD HE WOULD BRING HOME SOME OF THE RESIDUAL CATCH AND WE WOULD CHOW DOWN LIKE CRAZY. AFTER WE WERE DONE EATING WE WOULD TAKE THE SHELLS OVER TO OUR PRIVATE LITTLE BEACHFRONT AND DUMP THEM IN THE WATER. SHORTLY AFTER ONE OUR MANY FEASTS WE WERE JUST ENJOYING A FEW DRINKS BY THE BEACH, WHEN I NOTICED SOMETHING UNUSUALLY ROUND, SHINY AND WHITE AMONGST THE PILE OF SHELLS. SO I GRABBED IT REAL QUICK BEFORE THE TIDE TOOK IT AWAY. I AUTOMATICALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A PEARL JUST BECAUSE OF ITS LOCATION NEAR THE OYSTER SHELLS. I HAVE BEEN GOOGLING IT AND TRYING TO RESEARCH PEARLS TO FIGURE OUT IF IT IS ONE. IT SEEMS TO HAVE SHAPE, LUSTER AND SHINE DESCRIBED. MAYBE YOU CAN TELL ME BY THE PICTURE..THANKS

To be honest
by: Kari

Hello Daniel,

In all honesty, that object looks a little "too good to be true". In that I mean it looks too perfect and flawless to actually be a natural pearl. When you rub it against your teeth does it feel smooth like glass or gritty? That's one way to tell a real pearl. I suggest you show it to a trusted jeweler and see what he says. Maybe try a few jewelers and get a few opinions. Hey, I think it would be fantastic if it really were a pearl...just letting you know my initial impressions. I'm nearly impossible to tell these things from only a photo. Please let us know what you find out and thanks so much for sharing!
