Inherited Ring with Purple Pearl

I inherited this lovely old platinum ring with a purple pearl. I am wondering if this may be a Quahog pearl? Does anyone have an opinion? Many thanks for your response!

No, I don't think so

Hello Debby,

Congratulations on inheriting such a lovely pearl ring, but that isn't a quahog pearl. For one thing there is luster. Quahog pearls are non-nacreous, so don't have normal luster.

Yours might be a cultured freshwater pearl, or in a rare case, it could be a natural freshwater pearl. Both can come in that lovely lavender color.

Not sure the age, but since it's in platnum it might be worth sending to a pearl lab, like GIA to find out more.

Thanks for sharing. Kari
