Story about this pearl from the owner:
Some pieces carry more than beauty. They carry a story.
This pearl is one of them.
More than thirty years ago, I was given a rare opportunity: to take a collection of New Zealand abalone pearls and bring them to the world — to Japan, to Europe — and to put them into the hands of some of the finest designers I've ever worked with. Together we created pieces that were truly exquisite. This pearl is part of that original collection. It has been with me for over thirty years.
It came from the Chatham Islands — a wild, remote scatter of land far off New Zealand's east coast, where the water is cold and clear and the abalone grow slow and strong. My father travelled there himself. He searched, he dived, he collected these pearls one by one and carried them home so that I could send them out into the world. Every pearl in this collection passed through his hands first.
That makes them impossible to replace.
What makes this one extraordinary even among its peers is its dome — high, full, beautifully rounded — and its colour, which runs deep and alive with that unmistakable abalone fire: blues, greens, silvers, purples shifting as the light moves. This is a blister pearl, backed by its own shell, formed naturally against the inner wall of the abalone. No two are ever the same. Nature doesn't repeat herself here.
For decades my mother and I ran our business together — first in Austria, then home in New Zealand — surrounded by gemstones, gold, and the kind of craftsmanship that's becoming harder and harder to find. We closed the doors a little over a decade ago, when she became unwell and needed me more than the shop did. Some choices aren't choices at all.
Now I'm releasing this collection the only way it deserves — slowly, one piece at a time, to people who understand what they're holding.
These pearls are genuinely rare. The source is finite, the era they came from is gone, and the man who gathered them is part of the story you take home with you.
If this one is meant for you, you'll feel it.
