Purple Pearl from MS Gulf Coast Oyster

Purple Pearl from MS Gulf Coast Oyster

I found this dark purple pearl while eating a raw oyster on the MS Gulf Coast. I've searched the internet and the only purple pearls I can find are from clams. Has anyone ever seen a purple pearl from a gulf oyster? Anyone have any idea what it's worth?

Unusual purple oyster pearl
by: Kari

Hi, Thanks for sharing your photo and story. Most purple pearls in the USA come from Little Neck or Cherry Stone clams (Quahogs). I don't think I've ever heard of a purple pearl being found in edible oysters before. Yours is lovely. I like the color, shape and even it has a nice size.

Congrats on finding a lovely natural pearl!
