California Abalone Pearl

by Kim Enriquez

My husband was an urchin diver in the 1970’s. Once in a while he brought abalone home for dinner. One evening he brought a red abalone from the Channel Islands. While cleaning it, a pearl dropped out. I kept the pearl in my jewelry box for over 30 years. I decided to have it set so I sent it to David Stein at the Offwhite Gallery in Avalon on Catalina Island. I asked him to cast a 24k gold octopus holding the pearl. I also asked him to make a gold chain. I did not weigh the pearl before it was set. The total weight of the piece is 113.4 karats, or 22.68 grams.

Gorgeous Pearl
by: Kari

Hi Kim,

Wow, that's not only a gorgeous pearl but a gorgeous setting.

I'm glad you've taken it out of your jewelry box now and can enjoy it.

You get many compliments I'm sure on it when you wear it.

The luster is amazing.

Thanks for sharing!

Kari
