Did I find a black Pearl?

Did I find a black Pearl?

On the evening of July 19,2023 my girlfriend and I were beach combing on the shore in Stratford PEI when I picked up a round black ball. At first I thought it was musket ball or metal bearing of some sort but it didn’t have the weight of metal. I put it in my pocket and when I returned to the house I placed a magnet against it but it didn’t stick. I began searching the internet to see if it was possible to find a black Pearl in PEI. I did the tooth test and felt it gritty against my tooth.

I am not sure if it is a round stone or not. Any help identifying this object would be great.

Thank you,

Winnipeg MB

Hello Darryl,

Wow, I'd love to help you on that one, but unfortunately, it's impossible to identify something like that from a photo. It seems to have some characteristics of a pearl - at least it is not metal. It would have been fun to find a musket ball too, however.

Please take it to a local, reliable jeweler and get his/her opinion. If he agrees it could be a pearl, then you could send it to a lab, GIA, perhaps and get it tested. That way you'll know for sure if you have a treasure. You'll be out some fees but otherwise may never know for sure.

Thanks for sharing. "Anne of Green Gables" has made PEI famous for so many of us.

God bless,
