quahog pearl found 50+ years ago

My Dad was an avid clammer/fisherman in the rivers, bays and oceans off NJ. He found a pearl in a quahog clam, 50 to 60 years ago. I still have it. It is pale lavender and white; symmetrical; 10 cm in diameter and dome-shaped. Any idea what it is worth?

Lucky you!

Hi Jeff, Wow, what a treasure to have around for 50-60 years. It's a nice big one with useful shape and probably the colors are nice too. Dome shapes work well in rings.

EGL in NYC appraises these between $200-800/carat. So you can estimate from there. Maybe a local jeweler would weigh it for you.

I offer a service of selling these for folks on a consignment basis. See my guidelines here: https://www.karipearls.com/pearl-for-sale.html.

There is no fee to list.

Sometimes I buy them outright as well. Contact me if that might interest you.

Thanks for sharing. It would have been nice to see a photo but I'm sure it is lovely!

God bless!
