Beautiful Purple Quahog Pearl -- Top View

About 30 years ago while dining in a fine restaurant in New England, I bit into a Quahog pearl. I have held on to it all of these years not knowing if it were of any value. I just felt that it was a very beautiful pearl and I have attached a picture of the top above and the bottom of it below.

Not sure what else I can add. Wish I knew the value of these, just seems to be a mystery for now.

I go recreational shell fishing quite often where I reside on Cape Cod, MA. I shucked open a gorgeous pearl several years ago. So impressive that I gave it to my daughter as her college graduation gift. How can we assess a value to it? She would consider selling it to pay off those college loans. I just heard this morning of a guy who found one this past weekend and it appraised for fairly serious money. Can you share more of your experience with me?

Hi Jill,

Thanks for sharing about your pearl and the photos of both the top and bottom. It has a gorgeous color. Isn't it amazing that these pearls can be such a lovely lavender?

I saw a polished quahog shell once and it was also a beautiful lavender & purple color.

It's neat that you have it after all these years. I found a tiny oyster pearl once, but didn't keep proper track of it...I had no idea I would develop such an interest in pearls back then, or I really would have taken better care of it.

I appreciate you sharing your treasure with us!

The pearl being my birthstone, my deepest wish is to find one day. I want it to come to me not the other way around. What a thrill to find a pearl on your own. I'll probably clear the restaurant if I ever find one in my dinner dish.
